 | Cheers Friends,
I know, it's only half-way through Feb., so what's the deal....? Simply this: March is such a huge month for us, with so many big shows on the calendar, I want to give everyone an early preview and plenty of time to make plans to come out and join us.
In fact there are so many calendar entries (10) in March I won't list them all in detail here as usual. Instead I'll provide a link straight to the March page of the website calendar and ask you to click on a date to see the start time and venue link. http://www.jr-guitar.com/calendar/?cal_y=2010&cal_m=3&cal_d=1
Some highlights:
- 3 shows on the Coast with Deanna, incl. our first time at London Bridge Pub, Fisherman's Wharf #2 Monterey
- 4 shows in SF and The Peninsula with Cal and Chris, incl. 3 first-time venues
- 1 special outdoor appearance with Cal at The Cannery, Fisherman's Wharf SF
- 1 radio show live performance to promote the March slate
- 1 winery festival (another first)
I'll stop now but please do check out all the dates and venues on the calendar -- we're hoping at least one is right for you!
As always, on behalf of Chris, Deanna, and Cal, I want to thank you sincerely for your past and future support, it really does mean the world to us to see your friendly face in the audience. Without that the cool venues wouldn't be much fun...
Regards,
Jon

 | Hello again, Friends of The Band,
January has flown by, 5 gigs are history already in 2010. Here's our Feb. dates and lineups for The Jon Rubin Group, and a preview of one very special date in early March:
Chris says this is THE best coffee in the Bay Area! Kate at Barefoot impresses me as really wanting to provide a top-notch showcase for acoustic music...I know this is a close-by location for some of you, please do come out and say hello. Chris and me. No cover; all ages.
I'm pretty jazzed to be playing this world-famous destination, down the street form Fisherman's Wharf and next to Ghiradelli Square, where I've taken so many out-of-town guests. Joining me for the first time is a talented violinist, Gail Machlis, who is also a wonderful artist. Outdoors; many languages spoken. Repeat shows Feb. 12 and 18.
Deanna joins me on viola, back with host Cliff at our long-time favorite venue. Parking is really easy around The Esplanade off season. Once again we will be debuting some new material. No cover; 21+
Our fifth..sixth? visit to this cozy venue, right next door to the SJ Opera. Chris and me. No cover; all ages.
Our return to this world-renowned blues club. Cal brings his Grammy-credentialed violin to the lineup with Chris and me. Check out this video of the venue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToMUVc1LuiM The food is great too, esp. the gumbo! I know our mailing has swelled since we played there last July, so I'll repeat myself from then: if you come to only one show this year, THIS IS THE ONE. $5 cover; 21+.
On behalf of Chris, Deanna, and Cal, I want to thank you sincerely for your past and future support, it really does mean so much to us to see a friendly face in the audience. We hope to see you at a show!

 | Hello Friends of The Band,
Hope you all had a great holiday season! And thanks again, for coming to a show in 2009, hoping to catch a show in 2010, or just being on this mailing list. I can tell you I am really excited and looking forward to the new year in my new life as a full-time musician, performing (and recording) with my awesome bandmates as The Jon Rubin Group. http://www.jr-guitar.com/about/
Here's our January dates and lineups:
Deanna joins me on viola at our long-time favorite venue. Parking is really easy around The Esplanade off season. We will be debuting some new material...
Right across from the ballpark. With Cal and Chris. First time at this venue, as Grammy-credentialed Cal Keaoola will be playing Celtic fiddle tunes with us. Not to miss!
Solo fingerstyle guitar, maybe a drop-in guest. Nancy doesn't normally host music at EV on Sundays, but she graciously agreed to my request to try a folk/blues version of Sunday jazz brunch. So please stop by and say hello.
First time at this little local cafe making a name for itself as a live music venue. Chris and me doing our Jorma & Jack thing.
The full trio with Cal and Chris, at another first time venue. This restaurant & bar is right on the Bridgeway, and recommends reservations.
Hope to see you at a show!
On behalf of Chris, Deanna, Cal (and a soon-to-be-announced new addition to our Central Coast lineup), I want to thank you sincerely for your support, it really does mean so much to us.
Cheers,
Jon

 | Hello Friends of the Band (Central Coast contingent),
I'm departing from our monthly newsletter format to give you plenty of advance notice for the single most important show we've ever played....our first benefit.
Here's a link to the e-flyer http://monterey.craigslist.org/muc/1473838683.html
I'm proud of my bandmates for making this possible. You know we will be playing our hearts out...it also happens to be a really intimate concert venue (old-school folkie coffeehouse if you know what I mean)....hope to see many of you there to share this special evening. As our local mailing list is still relatively small and growing, please forward this note on to others who may be interested (thank you!).
btw....we DO have other shows in Dec. in SF and Santa Cruz -- just peek at the calendar on our website link above for details.
Deanna, Chris and I thank you for your support...esp. the fantastic audience at East Village a couple weeks ago!
Our best wishes to you for the holiday season,
Jon
